"Stick it to the MAN... called Rock & Roll. Don't waste time creating anything cool, or pure.... give up and just GIVE UP!"Who is the Man? Why does the genre of Rock & Roll confront those in our society/culture who have power and wield that power in a unjust or unfair way?
Do you agree/disagree?
The Man is society and its commonly held beliefs, or anyone in a position of authority who is oppressing others, no matter how insignificant the oppression may be (a principal, Ned's girlfriend,etc.). Rock and roll sticks it to The Man by breaking the rules of traditional/popular music, through the lyrics especially. It expresses anger and frustration, and it has a message that the artist feels is important. -Maddy Mar
ReplyDeleteThe Man is everyone who tells people what to do and keeps the rules. The Man is usually someone of authority who keeps things in order and orthodox. Rock and Roll is an expression of music that shows people that they can change, that there's more than just rules and order. Rock and Roll expresses anger at parts of the world that people are unsatisfied with. Parts of the world that oppress people and limit their expression

ReplyDeleteThe Man is can really be anyone with a higher authority that himself. The man could be someone who is very classy so Rock N Roll about rebeling agianst him. It shows how angry someone can be. Rock has to have a lot of energy and emotion in it. Rock and Roll can be sort of a rebel genre of music. It is the complete flip side of what the audience is used to hearing. I agree the music show be a way someone expresses his or her's feelings. It can also be his or her response to something that has happened in the social community or a way to communicate something that they might be too shy to flat out say.
ReplyDeleteThe man is the person that runs things and in Dewey's eyes, crush dreams and make people give up. Rock and Roll sticks it to the man because Rock is not the average classic music and it really expresses ones ideas, even if they are crazy. I agree with this because usually rockers have quite an unusual and crazy lifestyle and according to the man, this is not acceptable.
ReplyDelete“The Man” is the person who says you have to follow the rules, or the person trying to crush your dreams. Rock & Roll confronts these issues so that people can have the courage to face up to the man and deal with their problems. I agree that Rock & Roll cofronts these issues because rockers tend to do the unexpected which makes it even better. There is no order and the man loves order and perfection, but like Dewey says Rock is not perfect, which sticks it to the man even more.
ReplyDeleteI think the man is someone is higher up or thinks they are higher up than others, and try to run other people's lives as well as their own. The man thinks he's better than everyone else. Rock and roll confronts those In our society who have power because it expresses ideas with a lot of anger through the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteThe Man is a person who think that he/she is better than others because they have more power. Rock &Roll confronts this through its lyrics, which most of the time expresses anger. Rock & Roll is also a way for people to rebel. I agree with this because I believe that people are allowed to do whatever they want instead of having other people bossing them around.
ReplyDeletethe man is another that has power. Your parents, your your teachers, the president, anyone who has higher authoritative power over you is the "man". The thing about Rock and Roll is that it is so different that any other genre. It's different and unique. Rock and Roll I feel, embodies rebellion, independence, and freedom. Rock and Roll goes against order and expresses their feelings openly to all. This way it goes against the "man" because Rock and Roll isn't afraid to express what they feel, rather than hide in hear of the "man".
ReplyDeleteI believe "the man" is society/rulers/people in control. Society creates stereotypes of what is normal and how to act "proper". Rock and roll is a different way of expressing oneself that "the man" might not approve of. Sometimes it is okay to go against the norm and break the stereotypes of society. I believe that rock and roll is a perfect way to do that!
