I like Anastasia by A Silent Film and I dislike Sweet Pea by Amos Lee. The later is country music, and I don't even know how it got on my phone. Usually I can tolerate or like country music, but this singer's voice is sickly sweet and moves like molasses. I find it irritating. I like Anastasia because the words are like poetry, it is fun to sing along to. The singer's voice uses a large range and tempo, which makes it more interesting to to listen to.
I like the melody in the song "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift. A song that I don't like the melody is "Look At Me Now" because the words are going too fast and I cannot understand. These two melodies differ because they are different types of music which means they are going to have completely different melodies. The characteristics I like about that song is because it is a catchy song that has a good melody you can sing along too and dance too. The other song is mostly just talking really fast and I do not like that type of rapping music.
I agree with you. The song "Look at Me Now" doesn't really have a good melody because you can't really dance to that song it's more for just listening to. But the person talks too fast and the song. is just really talking. But the song "I knew you were Trouble" is a good one because like you said you are able to sing along with it.
1. A melody I like is in Someday by Flipsyde. A melody I don't care for is John cage's melody with the instuments in the kitchen. The two melodys are different becasue one has a natural flow and rythm to it while the other is more loud and un regulated. They different becasue one has been looked over a perfected while the other one is kind of spur of the moment and the sound can sometimes not turn out the correct way. 2. In "Someday" I like the characteristics of how the song starts slow and calming but it soon becomes fast. I don't like John Cage's becasue the sounds he does create are loud and jumbled together. The sound that is produced is sometimes not the one that one would expect to hear
I like the melody of "Crystalised" by The xx. And I do not particularly like the melody of "We Are Never Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift (no hard feelings). I like Crystalised because it is a very simple song melody with a slower tempo and a softer feeling. But in the song by Taylor Swift the beat is over produced and cheesy in a way. It sounds like any other pop song. Not saying Taylor isn't talented or nothing but I don't like that song. The xx have developed their own sound that is more calming and unique to them.
1) a melody that I prefer is Wicked Games by The Weekend. I like this melody because through his words are a lot of emotion and I can sence what he is saying and feeling through his words and the drums and piano all fit with the lyrics. I do not enjoy the melody of No Worries by Lil Wayne, the way he is singing is very computerized and un natural. He sounds like a robot and its unpleasant to my ears. They are both very different because they a different genres of music and have very different beats. No Worries is more up beat and fast and Wicked Games is slower with a better message in my opion.
For example I love the melody from ACDC's Back in Black because it has a great rhyme scheme to it m which helps make it catchy. But also it has a great rock instrumental to back it up. On the other hand, I don't like ACDC's song Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution because its much more of "free verse" and the tempo is a bit slow also.
I like I Miss You by Blink-182, and I dislike The Crunge by Led Zeppelin. I Miss You features a slow song with nice guitar and relaxing cello. It's a very subtle song. The Crunge, in my opinion, has an obnoxious guitar and lacks good vocal progressions. It is not catchy. The Crunge is funky, but too dry for my liking.
I agree Brian. The Crunge had potential to be a good song because the bass line is awesome and the horn that comes in 1/3 through the song is also good. But the guitar cords are really boring and there isn't enough variation, really ruining a decent song. I Miss You does have a nicer melody. I may be mistaken, but I think I hear some violin in the background and that really makes the song for me. It's a really nice compliment to the mellow guitar cords and incandescent the song.
The melody to Tarzan's Boy by Baltimore is up beat and I like it because I will never get tired of listening to it while I find most jazz bands to be over whelmed by its instrments and u can't hear the melody and not something I want stuck in my head.
I am not fond of the melody to the song Let Me Love You by Neyo partially because the song is very overplayed and I feel the singing with the music is kinda weird and not flowing. A melody I like is in a song called Down With The Trumpets by Rizzle Kicks. It has a constant beat drum and sometimes changes up and it flows well with the words. It also takes a familiar older melody and makes it new again.
1. I prefer fast music that starts out slow and builds, like a melody you would hear in Classic Rock. I also like melodies that stay at a fast but consecutive pace and doesn't really change radically. However I don't like melodies that start out slow out and stay slow like some country music. The different speeds and rhythms of the music make the melody. 2. One of the melodies is fast, lively, and full of energy. The other melody is slow and lethargic. It might not even have a surreal sound; it may just be incredibly slow.
I really enjoy the melody of "Miss You" by the Rolling Stones. I do not enjoy the melody of "American Idiot" by Green Day. "Miss You" has a relatively quick yet calm melody that you could tap your foot to as you sit back in a recliner in the living room with the sun shining through the window. "American Idiot's" melody is very harsh/abrasive that you could not sit back and hum the melody to.
One melody that I really enjoy is that of Led Zeppelin's song Kashmire. The pace is slow and the guitar fills are not clouded by overproduced reverb. The lyrics have powerful meaning that tell a story throughout the song that tells of Robert plants journeys throughout the Middle East and Asia. The sounds produced are very much influenced by the music of these lands added with the pistons of a train. One melody that I dislike is Tik Toc by Kesha because of her lack of vocal talent marred by use of auto-tuning combined with awful lyrics.
Luke stop hating on Ke$ha. She displays her lyrical genius in "Tik Tok" with lyrics like "Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack" or "but we kick 'em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger." Her vocal talent is especially ehasized with the electronic music.
I completely agree with your comment and I don't think anything that is auto tuned can ever sound good. I think Kesha's music is a prime example of this because her lyrics are anything, but meaningful and she tries to auto-tune them in order to improve her music. On the other hand, I thing Led Zeppelin's Kashmir is a great and original song that took real talent to produce. In the case of Led Zeppelin they have the talent to shred on the guitar, drums, and anything else while still keeping lyrical integrity
One melody I like is Eye of The Tiger bye Journey. I like it because it is not to fast and it moves pretty smoothly. One I do not like that much is a Peter Pan's song I think is called "I won't grow up" it is kind of annoying and it gets stuck in your head and I have to listen to many different other songs to get it out.
1. I really enjoy the melody of midnight city by m83 and otherside by Macklemore. They are both very flowing and smoothe and provide a good background to the singers. I don't like the melodies of Whats my name and S&M by Rihanna. They are too techy and I don't really like how it sounds. 2. I like how the melodies of Midnight City and Otherside flow. I don't like how there are no real instruments in the other too songs making the melodies kind of fake to me.
A melody that I do not care for very much is "Open Arms". A melody that I like is the melody of "Bitter Sweet Symphony". Open Arms is not a song that interests me because I do not care for most deep and swee-hearted slow songs. Altough Journey is a great band, The Verve exemplifies much better melody in their Bitter Sweet Symphony. The melody from Bitter Sweet Symphony sounds much better to me and suits my ears better.
The characteristics in Bitter Sweet Symphony include a better sounding melody and is much more pleasing for me to listen to. Journey's Open Arms does not sound very appealing to my ears however.
A melody I like is "Call Me" by Shinedown, while a melody I don't like is "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepson. They differ because "Call Me" as a slow tempo, while "Call Me Maybe" is upbeat. I favor "Call Me" by Shinedown because it has many recorded pitches put together & it crescendos in certain places, which "Call Me Maybe" seems to lack.
I really enjoy the song "American Pie". The change in tones and upbeat playing really keeps it new throughout all 8 minutes. However, I don't like the song "Girl on Fire" because it is very slow and there are no parts to sing along with.
"Girl on Fire" is an amazing song. Did you watch the Grammys? Alicia Keys came in on the giant drums and sang it with Adam Levine from Maroon Five. This song is awesome and you can definitely sing along. The song is all about women's empowerment and inner strength.
The melody to the song Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine and the melody of the song Werewolf by Cocorosie. They differ because Dog Days Are Over has a melody that is just instruments and Werewolf has a mix of beatboxng/instruments/random sounds. I like that consistency of the melody and dislike the random mix of noises.
A melody of a song that I like is The girl from ipanema. A melody that I don't like is Sleigh Ride. The reason that these songs are different is because one song gets stuck in your head and is annoying but the other song is catchy but doesn't get stuck in your head. Sleigh ride is the song I think is annoying and very repetitive. The girl from ipanema is very enjoyable and I've known it for many years.
The Girl from Ipanema is a great song. Me and my dad love it; we play it together on the piano and guitar. I totally agree that it's melody can get stuck in your head, but its a great song to get stuck in your head. It's just a happy fun melody that I always find myself humming to.
I agree, songs that are catchy are much more enjoyable than ones that get stuck in your head for hours, especially if that particular song is annoying. Sometimes it is better to just have a tune or melody in your head rather than the entire song so it does not wear out on you.
The melody I prefer is one like Lana del Rey's in her song "Born to Die." It is very slow and relaxing and her voice has a softness that no other artist has. Most of her songs have a slow melody to them that are very calm - I love listening to her. A melody I definitely don't prefer is one like Master of Puppets by Metallica. It is just too loud and harsh and I don't enjoy listening to it.
I also really like all of Lana del Rey's melody's. they're very calming and easy to listen to. Another song is video games by her, I love the melody in that one. Another artist who has great melody's in their music is the lumineers. But I agree with Claire, I don't think any Metallica, or scremo is easy to listen to.
The melody from Kelly Clarkson's song Stronger is something that I don't like. I don't like it because it is very repetitive and sounds too fake. The melody from Quake by Starting Six sounds less repetitive. Also the constant playing of Kelly Clarkson on the radio may have caused my dislike of Kelly Clarkson. The melody from my good song isn't so happy go lucky melody.
I completely agree with you Cwan. The melody of Stronger is just way too repetitive and the lyrics are also cliche, at that. Contrasting Quake from Stronger at the aspect of their melodies was a great choice because yes, the melody is much more diverse in Quake than in Stronger.
The song "One" by Metallica has one of my favorite melodies. The beginning is very soft and slow, but as you move through the song it slowly moves into a harder and faster pace. Then in the middle of the song the melody will switch back to being slow then after a verse it will go to being fast again. I like the switching of tempo because it keeps the song from being repetitive. One melody I really do not like is a song by Ellie Goulding, "Anything Could Happen." It is one of the most repetitive song I have ever heard, and in my opinion it is not very creative.
Metallica wrote great songs at a certain point in history. They claim to have moved towards a more "authentic" version of themselves in recent years and I think it is further from the greatness that can be found on albums Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and And Justice for All.
A melody I like is She's Thunderstorms by the Arctic Monkeys. It's a smooth and relaxing song. I dislike the melody of Shortly Before the End by OK Go. While I usually like most songs by this band, this song seems to be way too slow for me to listen to. While both of these songs are pretty slow, I prefer the Arctic Monkeys because the melody sounds better for the song while the OK Go song sounds like it is played extremely slow.
The melody from Macklemore's song My Oh My is one of my favorites because of the combination of Macklemore's rapping flow, actual game audio from a baseball game, and a slow but exciting beat. One melody I do not enjoy is Friday by Rebecca Black. It is very chessy, annoying, and just plain bad. I believe 95% of people agree with me as well.
A melody I really like is Forrest Gump by Frank Ocean. It's really moderate, but it manages to get you in an uplifted mood. There are subtle samples in the instrumental that you can hear that make it really interesting too. I don't like melodies like the one from Where Have You Been by Rihanna. I can sing every word to that song and I've listened to it over 100 times, but as far as the melody goes, I feel like there are too many dance breaks and not enough substance.
A melody I don't like is Nicki Minaj's song "Beez in the Trap." It stays pretty slow and it forces you to listen to the lyrics that don't make any sense to me at all. She sings really slow and in a low voice, to me it just sounds like she is talking and not singing. A melody I do like is that song by Bruno Mars "Locked Out of Heaven" the melody is fast and it is a good song to listen to or sing along to and the lyrics actually make sense which is nice. Bruno Mars can actually sing and the song just sounds good overall. I prefer a fast melody and I think it makes a better song.
I really enjoy the melody of Kid Cudi's song "The Prayer". His combination of soft rap with a bell sounding instrument creates beautiful music, and his lyrics are about how his music will last forever. I really don't like most country music, mainly because I feel like there is a lot of complaining that goes in the lyrics.
Cwan15, I completely agree with you. To me, Kelly Clarksons songs all sound the same, and the Moody's annoy me because they are all repetitive. Although, I don't hate all repetitive songs. If a song is repetitive, but has a melody that I like, it makes me like he song more. A song that can represent this for me is battle scars. So, repetitiveness of melody either makes me like a song a lot, or not at all
One melody I always loved was the one in Led Zepplin's Dancing Days. It is extremely catchy and never fails to catch your attention. It also goes really well with Robert Plant's vocals and is changed up just enough that it never gets annoying.
One melody I never really cared for was "Do You Know the Enemy" by Green Day. It's not terrible, but really just sounds generic and repetitive in my opinion.
I like Anastasia by A Silent Film and I dislike Sweet Pea by Amos Lee. The later is country music, and I don't even know how it got on my phone. Usually I can tolerate or like country music, but this singer's voice is sickly sweet and moves like molasses. I find it irritating. Delete¨I Knew You Were Trouble" is so overplayed! Taylor Swift needs to go back to country music
DeleteOuch^^ yeah Syd I agree u can't really dance to Look at me now.

hehe... I'm not sure John Cage intended for that piece to have a melody, but ok.

ReplyDelete2 VERY different albums from ACDC - that might have something to do with it

ReplyDeleteAgreed. This song is overplayed. I think it's a bit repetitive.
DeleteI disagree. The song is good due to Ne-Yo's vocals and the way he is able to hit the high notes. I also think the melody is catchy

DeleteTotally agree on Kashmir by Zeppelin - Page was a master in the studio!

I totally agree with you about the song "What's My Name" by Rihanna, definitely not one of her best.
DeleteA song that has a really good melody is stacy's mom, but a bad melody is can you feel the love tonight because it is very slow and sad.
ReplyDeleteThe characteristics of a melody that I like are fast and upbeat so that you are able to dance and be happy.
Tarik, I completely agree with your opinion on Stacy's Mom. It is a classic song with an impeccable melody.

ReplyDeleteOne melody I always loved was the one in Led Zepplin's Dancing Days. It is extremely catchy and never fails to catch your attention. It also goes really well with Robert Plant's vocals and is changed up just enough that it never gets annoying.
ReplyDeleteOne melody I never really cared for was "Do You Know the Enemy" by Green Day. It's not terrible, but really just sounds generic and repetitive in my opinion.
