What have you learned that you did not know about Beethoven in the past several days? Is Beethoven a likable person? Does his art mean more to the world than whether he is personally liked or not?

  1. In the past couple games I have learned how Beethoven was almost writing a play with his music. Beethoven seemed like he was self centered and only accepted his ideas. If he was more personally liked in his day his music might have spread a litle bit more but in the present it doesn't matter if he was liked or not.

  2. In the past few days, I have learned that Beethoven went deaf. He cut off the legs of the piano to hear the vibration of the sound through the floorboards. This obviously displays his talents of music for becoming one of the greatest classical composers while not being able to hear anything!

  3. I didn't know Beethoven was a pyschopath when it came to his emtional side. Beethoven does not seem to be a likeable person because of his raging emotions and his physical actions. Yes his art means more than whether he is liked. His music inspired millions of musicians and we are still talking about him today, right this very second. His music is remembered, but not his personality as much.

  4. Beethoven gradually became deaf overtime but also used the sound vibrations from the piano's strings to somewhat hear the music.
Whether someone is liked or not people are defined by their contributions to society. It doesn't matter if you're a good guy but don't help anyone or anything, and vice versa if you're selfish and cruel it doesn't really matter if you cure cancer.

  5. From the movie that I have seen in class, Beethoven actually sort of reminds me of what a rock star would be like in the 18th and 19th century. I mean, he goes around trashing hotel rooms and trying to do things that no else at the time was doing, and, if Immortal Beloved can be believed, he was also quite a lady's man.

    1. I like how you compared Beethoven to a rock star. I totally agree.

  6. Before this I only knew about Beethovens music and fame. I have learned a lot. I did not know that he was percieved as a jerk and not a very likable person. His personality is overlooked because his music is so widely known and famous. His art has made such an impact on the world that no one really cares to stop and realize who he actually was.

  7. Beethoven was not liked or well respected as a person in general. Unlike the popular attitude of the time, he did not care about his personal image and what other people thought about him. I think that many amazing composers and artist have lead controversial lives and are still respected for their art and talents.

  8. Beethoven was full of himself and boastful. I learned that he became deaf and listen to his music through wood panels on the floor.

  9. I learned that he cut the legs off his piano so he would be able to hear the sounds of they keys when writing music. I believe if you appreciate him solely for his music, his is a like able person. His art is far more important to the world than whether or not the general public likes him personally or not.

  10. I learned that Beethoven isn't understood and is very isolated. It must be tough to not be understood. If he was liked his music would grow more.

  11. What I learned about Beethoven is that he still conducted symphonies even though he was he could not hear then. I think that he is a likable person because he has a very talented. His art means more because that is going to be remembered more than his personality.

  12. I did not know Beethoven was after Mozart. I think Beethoven is likable in the way he is mysterious and people want to know what his deal is. For others his personality may be too harsh and totally unlivable because of his great rage. His music is definitely more important than whether people like or dislike his personality.

  13. I learned how truly universal his works are. A lot of geniuses have social problems, but we can still appreciate him for his music. Yes, his art is significant enough that his personality is not that important.

  14. Beethoven seems very self absorbed, and he also seems to think that he is better than everybody else, even if he was. However I feel that his attitude doesn't make me dislike his music. Also, from what we watched it seemed like the general public had different opinions regarding Beethoven and his music.

  15. I learned that Beethoven taught music as well as played it. I think he is from what I know. He managed to overcome his deafness to become a legend, do he must have an incredible amount of willpower. I don't think Beethoven really cared if you didn't like his music. He could tell what was musical art and what wasn't.

  16. I actually learned Beethoven's full name. I know I was probably the only one. I do not think Beethoven was that likable because that woman really did not like the way he was speaking to her and she didn't want him to teach her piano. I think at that time people liked his his music better than they liked him.

I always knew that Beethoven was deaf, but I never knew that he used the vibrations in the floor boards to know what he was playing. I think he is a very likable person because people appreciate the works he created while he was handicapped. I think that no matter if people like him or not, his music is important around the world.

  18. Beethoven was a weird dude, but a good composer. His ideas and talents inspired other composers of his day and today. His art means more to the world than his personality so in most people's eyes I imagine he is believed to have been likable.

  19. I learned that Beethoven's music was very controversial, and that he went deaf. I got the sense that he was very hard to get along with from the movie, but I don't think that his personality affects the importance of his music.

  20. I had always thought that Beethoven was a like able guy and that he was very popular during his life as a person and equally a musician. But I have now learned that he was actually kind of hated by many people during his years of living. He was not very popular at all, but I still believe that his art is just as meaningful today. Even though he was not a like able guy.

  21. I didn't know Beethoven became deaf later in his lifetime and that although he was deaf he still played music. I don't really know if Beethoven was a likable person because I don't know that much about him for me to determine if he was. I think he can be liked for his music only, especially because the way we know him is through his music.

  22. What I learned about Beethoven is that he was deaf towards the end of his life. It is cool to see how someone who can't hear can make 9 symphonies. I don't think Beethoven is a very likable person be around. Even though people at the time may not have liked him but his music has to be respected. His compositions have lasted the test of time whether you liked him or not.

  23. i was surprised to find out that he was not very liked by his peers. and I didn't know that he had a brother or three mistresses.

  24. What I learned aout Beethoven is that he was very very popular during his time because during the opening scene, there was so many people outside waiting to touch his coffin that it was hard to transport it to the carriage

  25. What I learned about him was that he is kindof a player. He was with a lot of different women. You can tell that he is not liked by people. People don't like his personality and I do not blame them. It doesn't matter that people don't like him, because people love his music either way.

  26. What I've learned from Beetoven so far is that he was widely loved and hated throughout his life. Many people believed his music was too powerful for children and others thought of it has surreal

  27. I didn't know that Beethoven lived a life of mischief and was not a very popular personality. For me, it doesn't matter that he was not very liked because his music is applicable to everyone's life differently.

  29. I learned that Beethoven used vibrations from the ground to "hear" after he lost his hearing. His music abilities were so advanced that he didn't even need to hear music to create some of the most famous musical compositions ever. He adapted to his deafness by cutting the legs off his piano and "hearing" the vibrations through his floorboards.

  30. I enjoyed learning a lot about how, and why Beethoven made his music the way he made it. He had a very interesting life. I was also surprised by popular he was. Overall, I'd say he had a pretty interesting life.

  31. I never knew Beethoven was deaf. It's cool and quite amazing how he used the vibrations in the ground to hear his music. I don't really know whether or not he was a likable character or not. I don't think people can judge others without knowing who they really are. I think Beethroven is misunderstood

  32. I learned that Beethoven liked to sleep around with a lot of woman who were attracted to his fame and his beautiful music. If I were to guess, then I would say that Beethoven was a decent wnough person before he became famous, but all the attention he received made him act as though he were a god. In truth, that is also how he was treated, based on the number of people who attended his funeral. Because of this godlike treatment he received from the people, I can't blame him for being full of himself nd acting the way he did.

  35. Before the past several days, I only knew that Beethoven was a very famous composer and that he was german and deaf. However, it was very intriguing that he was looked at as a jerk and mysterious. His music should definitely be respected and is relevant in the world, whether a person likes him or not.

  36. I was very surprised to learn that he used the vibrations on the floor to hear music once he became deaf. This was very interesting to me because I had never heard of anything like that before. I think Beethoven's music makes people like him, but he does not have a very well-liked demeanor. His art has lived well past his death which makes it very important.

  37. I've learned a lot about Beethoven in the last few class periods. Beethoven was a miss-interpreted man, but he was also a musical genius. He went deaf towards the end of his life, but that didn't stop him from composing music. He cut the legs of his piano, and used the vibrations to write the chords. However he wasn't that friendly, and often used woman. The only reason he was respected was because of his remarkable music.

  38. What i learned about Beethoven was that he was deaf and that a lot of people hated his personality. His music is more important to the world than his personality because even though he wasn't liked, his music influenced the whole world.

  39. I think Beethoven was a like able person because he was a revolutionary composer. It seems like music was his passion and he continued composing even after becoming deaf. Being a revolutionary made him personally seem somewhat weird at the time. I don't think it matters if he was liked or not, the thoughts that his music makes you think is not changed by the composer for me.

  40. To me Beethoven seemed like the frat guy of his age, someone who would be loud, boisterous and loved to party. Seeing as the upper class of that time were very proper, he was probably looked down upon or looked at in a similar way to the way people looked at rock and roll artists when they first emerged. Knowing this makes me look at Beethoven's music as revolutionary.

  41. My favorite thing I learned about Beethoven is that he became deaf over his lifetime and to continue to compose music he cut off the legs of his piano and would listen to the sound vibrations through the floorboards. He has taught me that nothing should stop you from doing what you love. He overcame adversity in his life and so I can too. I now have a greater respect for Beethoven and I understand the meaning behind his music better. Beethoven was respected because of his music and it was the way he communicated his feelings and by understanding his music we can understand him. There is so much meaning behind his music. I think Beethoven was judged and thought of as weird or crazy but his music was respected and helped to express the true Beethoven. I think the important part of Beethoven was his music because it is incredible and left a lasting impression on our world.

  42. In the past few days, I have learned that Beethoven was an easily angered man. I knew he was moody, but I never knew that it was to the extent that it was. I don't think we'll ever know if Beethoven was a likable person. Besides, there are no first-hand sources that can tell us today that he wasn't likable. His music definitely means more to the world that whether he was liked or not. Until this week, I never knew how short-tempered he was, but I had always appreciated his music

  43. So I learned that Beethoven was not a liked by many people. I think that his music is who he is, so I think if people like his music, then they like his expression of feelings. The music is his expression, his music is just as important as his own self. I think that his music has had a larger influence than whether he was actually like by people.

  44. I learned that Beethoven became deaf thought his lifetime, but he was still able to write music by feeling vibrations through the floor. Although he may not seem like the most likable person, he is definitely respectable. His music is a part of our daily life like in movies or commercials.

  45. I did not know that Beethoven was only deaf nearing the end of his life. I was surprised to find out that he used the piano's vibrations to compose music. In the movie Beethoven is not a very like able person who criticizes others trying to play his music. I believe his art is important even if he was liked personally or not. He is a great composer and his personality can't get in the way of that.

  46. I learned that Beethoven was notably disliked by his contemporaries and controversy surrounds areas of his personal life– but his personal life is exactly that: personal. What he did for music is more important.
